Hi - I'm planning a trip for a family with children who are happy to hike for hours on end, but aren't experienced at carrying loaded backpacks for long periods of time. I've seen several people mention that there are companies that will transport luggage from hut to hut on the Laugavegurinn for people who are NOT on guided tours, but I can't seem to find any actual names of those companies, much less their web sites, prices, or operating dates.

Is there some magic keyword I'm missing? Do these outfits actually exist? The kind of person who wants a luggage transfer service to walk Laugavegur should not be attempting it at such dates. That's why they don't offer the service at those dates. Watch this very interesting documentary, during which you will see why Julia Bradbury, noted for her television documentaries on hiking trails, decided to take vehicular assistance out of the area before finishing the walk, and that was even before the end of August. More broadly, it's a very nice program, if rather hyped up, and worth an hour of anyone's time who is interested in Iceland.

Note that when she describes the walk as the most challenging she has ever done in the first few moments, that refers to the weather, not the terrain underfoot. For the walk itself, if you can walk 4 days in any hills carrying your tent and all your food, you can do Laugavegur too - in season.
